Leye - Fengshan UNESCO Global Geopark established sister parks with Yandangshan UNESCO Global Geopar

   On 16th November 2017, Lu Rong, Director of Leye-Fengshan Global Geopark Management Committee, deputy secretary of CPC Fengshan county and the head of Peoples Government of Fengshan county, lead the relevant person of Leye-Fengshan Global Geopark Management Committee to Yandangshan Global Geopark for learning and exchanging the experience of re-evaluating, and established sister parks with Yandangshan Global Geopark and Zhangjiajie Global Geopark.

After learning group arrived in Yandangshan, they listened carefully to the introduction of management system, geological heritage protection, information system, tourism management and resource management made by the people of Yandangshan Geopark Management. The learning group learn more about Yandangshans experiences and practices in geosciences research, science popularization activities, construction of geological museums, the exchange activities between geoparks, community development and re-evaluation of Global Geoparks.

Upon friendly consultations, Leye-Fengshan Geopark, Yandangshan  Geopark and Zhangjiajie Geopark signed a cooperation agreement and became sister geoparks. In the future, Leye - Fengshan geopark will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Yandangshan geopark and Zhangjiajie geopark in relics resources protection, popular science education, personal management, information resources, tourism promotion and sustainable development.

The establishment of sister parks is an essential part of the Geopark planning. It is an effective way to strengthen the construction of geoparks, protect the resources of geological relics effectively and promote the coordinated development of geoparks and local economy by forming sister parks and carrying out regular exchange and cooperation activities. It has become a successful model to protect and utilize natural resources. The forming of sister parks is also the basic requirement of UNESCO for the members of the Global Geoparks, and it  is one of the important contents of evaluation and inspection.
